The digital age has many of us drifting further from our elemental nature. The good news is that nature itself offers us a clear roadmap to rediscover the truth of who we are. Mother Nature abounds at the Feathered Pipe Ranch. Vast Montana skies, mountains on every horizon, aspen woods and pine forests, and symphonies of birdsong are steps from your lodging. Wildflower-covered hills encircle accessible hiking trails. Fronting the vast lawn of the main lodge, the iconic Ranch lake provides cool solace and reflection. Anyone who has surrendered to the tranquility of the Ranch knows its power to revive one’s spirit.

Mindful Unplug - Yoga Movement TherapyScience tells us that time in nature reduces anxiety and stress while boosting our capacity for joy. Wisdom traditions have long acknowledged that we and nature are inseparable. During our week together, the Ranch’s natural environs will rightfully be our primary teacher, encouraging an experience of nature not as an entity “out there,” but as the intrinsic fabric of our everyday lives.

Now in its sixth running, this homegrown Feathered Pipe program blends mindful practices and creative activities that support connection with all of life. The week offers unscheduled time for leisure and solitude, and time for community in a supportive and relaxed setting. This sensory-rich program offers a chance to reflect on the grace and mystery of nature through breath-centered yoga and mindful movement, forest immersion, music and dance, contemplative practice, dharma talks, and shared inquiry. Plus, there’s a good chance for a fun surprise or two along the way. There is always joy, inspiration, giggling, and camaraderie at The Unplug!

Mindful Unplug emcee Anne Jablonski of Yoga Set Free serves as your emcee for the week and guide for daily yoga and mindful movement, dharma talks, meditation, and sensory practices in nature. Anne’s mission is to have you return home with tools to reset mindfully and shore up your resilience reserves. Because you are the best architect and alchemist for your own well-being, her aim is to help you get reacquainted and on friendly terms with your inner landscape.

Sensory awareness guide, renowned photographer Zane Williams, returns to the Unplug to encourage reconnection to our original teacher. With a keen eye for beauty and a gift for guiding others to the sensory treasures all around, Zane will point attendees toward the light, color, sounds, scents, tastes, and textures of the Ranch and environs. There will be “forest immersion” sessions (based on the Japanese concept of shinrin-yoku) and a nightfall meditation. We shall re-acquaint ourselves with how sense-luscious our world is.

The Mindful Unplug - Music Therapy Longtime Ranch friend Matthew Marsolek (of the Drum Brothers) and family will be at The Unplug in 2022 to share their heart-opening sessions built around participatory sound, rhythm practices, and voice awareness. Simple, guided exercises to open and free the voice will be a prelude to a song circle, utilizing chants and songs gathered from Matthew’s travels abroad and studies in World Music.

This is a come-as-you-are retreat. No experience with any of the practices offered during the week is required. Bring ‘beginners mind’ and a bit of willingness to pay attention with your heart— you’ll be all set. If the experience of past participants is any guide, you may discover that once you unplug and surrender to nature as your nature, contentment and peace are available despite the external chaos and distractions all
around us.

MINDFUL UNPLUG RETREAT TIP! Extend your time in peace and beauty while savoring Western hospitality by spending some time exploring the great West’s National Park treasures either before or after your Mindful Unplug week. Glacier National Park is a glorious and scenic 3.5 hour drive north and west of the Ranch, while Yellowstone is just a 4.5 hours drive south and east of the Ranch through some of the prettiest Western territory you’ll ever see.

Mindful Unplug - Anne JablonskiPausing, Breathing, Moving, Meditating – Anne Jablonski

A Yoga-Alliance registered teacher (E-RYT 500) in Virginia, Anne teaches at Sun &Moon Yoga Studio, shares de-stressing and mindfulness classes with organizations around the world, serves as President of the Feathered Pipe Foundation, and juggles work for busy startup companies. She is intimately familiar with what it’s like to yearn for practical ways to insert mindful pauses into a rat-race-y life. Anne’s teaching draws on inspiration from her most influential teachers: Erich Schiffmann, every fine poet, Hanuman, her cheeky teacher within, and the landscape that’s inspired her every summer for sixteen years and counting — the Feathered Pipe Ranch itself.

Zane Williams - Zane Williams PhotographySensing the Present Moment – Zane Williams

Both a photographer and a yoga practitioner for over 35 years, Zane’s long tenure photographing the landscape and people, and contributing his efforts to humanitarian projects, informs many Unplug themes. These days he picks up his camera less frequently, preferring to appreciate the world unmediated through devices. Increased immersion in nature, greater appreciation for solitude and silence, and furthered relationship with the other-than-human world around us show up in Mindful Unplug experiences. All connections weave together, as David Abram says, to renew “our acquaintance with the sensual world.”

Matthew Marsolek - Drum BrothersCreative Expression Through Sound, Rhythm, and Song – Matthew Marsolek

Together with his wife Tracy Topp and sons Ravi and Nyon, Matthew infuses the Mindful Unplug with sound, dance, and rhythm. Matthew has received awards of excellence from the University of Montana for his musical work with theater and dance. A dedicated and charismatic educator, he has a passion for rhythm, musical relationships, and the therapeutic and community building aspects of music Matthew has studied East Indian and West African music for the past 18 years with a variety of teachers, including Mukesh Desai from India and Abdoul Doumbia from Mali, West Africa. Matthew has experience and training in jazz, classical, and Hindustani vocal technique and is also an accomplished jazz and classical guitarist. As a recording artist, he has released projects with Drum Brothers and Mandir as well as two solo recordings. He teaches classes and clinics in voice, rhythm, and hand drumming throughout the US and Canada.

Registration deposit required: A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to secure online registration. Full payment is due eight weeks before the start of the program.

Tuition fee includes: Basic shared occupancy in Main Lodge, Yurt, Sai Condo OR single occupancy Tipi/Regular Tent, plus meals and use of all amenities – our bathhouse, sauna, hot tub, as well as all the Feathered Pipe Ranch facilities and grounds.

The Mindful Unplug: Rediscovering Nature as Our NatureThe retreat will include:

7-nights indoor or outdoor accommodations (upgraded accommodations require an additional fee)

Shuttle service: Shuttle service from/to Helena Regional Airport on arrival/departure day is complimentary (free) for all registered guests. Please note that if you are needing pick-up or drop-off on any other day, that there will be a $35 one-way charge.

Arrival and departure: Please plan to arrive at the Feathered Pipe Ranch no later than 5pm on the arrival day (Saturday, 16 July) of your retreat so you can join us for a 5:30pm walkabout tour of the grounds before dinner and our group evening orientation. Please arrange to leave the Ranch in the morning or early afternoon of departure day (Saturday, 23 July). Checkout is at 9am, and guests are welcome to stay at the Ranch until their flight leaves that day.
