Howard’s Spaghetti Sauce – Feathered Pipe Cookbook

Long-time Feathered Pipe ranch manager Howard Levin‘s spaghetti sauce is used in many dishes within the the Feathered Pipe Cookbook. Of course, his secret ingredient was always the laughter and love he put into every meal during his many years as Feathered Pipe Ranch manager.


Howard’s Spaghetti Sauce
Makes 1 quart spaghetti sauce



— 1/2 onion, minced
— 5 cloves garlic, minced
— 1 green pepper, minced
— 1 1/2 tablespoon oregano
— 1/4 cup basil, chopped
— 1/4 cup olive oil
— salt and pepper to taste
— 1 tablespoon honey, or more to taste
— mushrooms (optional)
— 2 cans crushed tomatoes, or 4 cups undrained chopped tomatoes
— 1 small can tomato paste
— 1/2 cup water


— Saute onions, garlic, green peppers and spices in olive oil over medium heat in a heavy pan.
— Add mushrooms if desired and cook until onions and peppers are soft.
— Add tomatoes, tomato paste and water.
— Cook over low heat 2 – 3 hours
— Add honey last
