The Ranch is a magical place with a humble, easy-going vibe.  The Main Lodge where we practice yoga looks out at a wide, green lawn and sparkling lake.  When we close our eyes and recall the place, we see tipis nestled in the trees and wildflowers, deer walking past log cabins, starry night skies and smoke circling upward from an evening campfire, a hammock in the shade by the lake, a squirrel stir the quiet on the nature deck where we sit together in the early mornings.  There are plenty of places to be alone and bask in the quiet and clean mountain air as well as cozy spots to gather in community and connect with new and old friends.

The retreat is seven nights and six full days.  Yoga on retreat is special.  Our twice daily classes will nurture consistent practice that builds and deepens gradually.  We’ll work on strength each day for balance and stability.  The meditative movement practice set in this quiet, beautiful spot will offer peace and perspective.  Being on retreat also allows us to deepen our connections with and take inspiration from each other.

Journey Into Quiet Presence: A Montana Yoga Retreat - Dorinda Nyberg & Debbie GilmanSpecial activities we plan to offer include: bedtime yoga, mindful writing, evening star gazing, campfires, practice on the nature deck, possible day trip to Helena and/or Gates of the Mountain Boat Tour.

Debbie Gilman and Dorinda Nyberg use Iyengar-style yoga as their foundation and approach their teaching by deeply honoring their students.  Both studied with Donald Moyer, an early student of B.K.S. Iyengar, trained at The Yoga Room in Berkeley, and taught on the faculty of the 500 hour teacher training program there for many years.

The retreat’s active morning yoga classes will marry gentle but precise anatomical instructions with inner body imagery to go beyond the body’s mere mechanics into deep interoception. Afternoon sessions offer choices including restorative yoga, inversions, pranayama & mindful writing and yoga.  An exploration of yoga philosophy will be woven into the practice.  Alternatives are offered when a pose is inappropriate for a student.  Small group practice sessions with a choice of focus will be offered for more individual attention.  We aim to let students feel safe and seen.

This week of yoga in the heart of the Rocky Mountains will allow you to step away from your routines and stressors, feel the lightness that comes with deep, regular practice and grow in your understanding of what yoga means to you and why you practice.

*This retreat is open to students with at least one year of Iyengar yoga experience.

WHAT DORINDA & DEBBIE’S RETREAT ATTENDEES SAY:

Journey Into Quiet Presence: A Montana Yoga Retreat - Dorinda Nyberg & Debbie Gilman“This was my third yoga retreat with Debbie and Dorinda. The combination of being held and guided by these two gifted teachers and being at beautiful Feathered Pipe Ranch, with its impressive history and traditions, was just perfect.  I’m an elder yoga practitioner and I particularly appreciate Dorinda and Debbie’s wise and gracious way of making the practice accessible for each of us and encouraging us to listen to our own bodies.”

“Debbie and Dorinda have cultivated a unique yoga retreat that blends practice, personal growth and community. They share their knowledge and love of yoga with each participant while creating a nurturing and supportive environment. When this all comes together you can’t help but reach new goals you might have set for yourself! I have been in several retreats with this talented duo and highly recommend them.”

“A fabulous experience overall.  I would recommend it to anyone who loves yoga and wants to get a week away from the day-to-day buzz.  You two made it special with all the work that you did!”

“I loved the retreat. It was everything I wanted it to be.  I felt relaxed in my body and my mind with the yoga and beautiful location. I was doing poses with more ease and success than normal, which was exactly what I wanted out of the retreat. Your choreography for each session was Spot On! Cheers to both of you for all your planning and design of our week.”

“Thank you for bringing together such a lovely group of folks!  I returned home feeling stronger and well-nourished in both body & spirit.  Thank you for doing all the prep work that went into making this amazing retreat happen.  Your positive, supportive warmth as well as your extensive & intuitive knowledge shared in all the beautiful practice spaces were as big as the sky at Feather Pipe Ranch.  I find myself with heightened attention & noticing…in yoga practice & in life as I return home…one of the many gifts from the retreat.  The singing cowboy on the last night was delightful, so fun! With appreciation for you both.”
