Enjoy a week of yogic exploration in this beautiful Montana setting with an active session in the morning and a restorative and pranayama session in the evening. Each class will progressively lead you to a deeper understanding of your needs and help you tap into the kaleidoscope of possibilities that yoga offers. The alchemy of practice moves us progressively from the gross to the subtle, from mobility to stability, and from efforts to effortlessness. Join senior-level Iyengar Yoga instructor Lara Warren as she guides you in understanding the how, the when, and the what to practice.
Expect a progressive approach to the postures and sequencing starting on Day 1 with standing poses, moving progressively through the week with seated postures, forward bends, twistings, balancings, and backbends. Within each family of asana, there are guiding organizational principles. And, while the nuts and bolts of the poses are essential, we will move beyond just the physical understanding of them. We will learn how to work within asanas, not to “perfect,” but to become literate and adept at reading what is needed in any given moment and how to adjust based on those needs.
Daily Schedule:
7am — Breakfast
9am-12pm — Morning Yoga
12:30pm — Lunch
4-6pm — Restorative & Pranayama
6:30 — Dinner
7:45pm — Evening hikes, bonfires & free time to enjoy just being
By the end of the week, expect to learn how dynamics shift within a posture, depending on sequencing, timing, props and even the lens with which we analyze them. You will go home with more sensitivity and self-awareness within the asanas and your life, a better understanding of how and what to practice independently, a greater literacy of adjusting your practice based on your given circumstances, and the courage to practice more advanced poses and explore your creativity on and off the mat.
*Please note: This retreat is open to all skill levels with the expectation that participants have baseline understanding of yoga postures and desire to learn and explore more deeply.

WHAT LARA’S PAST RETREAT, TRAINING & CLASSES ATTENDEES SAY:
“Lara’s unique combination of experienced, intelligent and playful exploration of yoga empowers her students to approach their own practice with a similarly fresh and curious mind. This has given me not only the knowledge and methodology but also the mindset that enables me to adapt my practice and teaching for any given condition, ever-expanding the maps of my self awareness and freedom of body mind and spirit.”
“For me, a week with Lara is the opportunity to “level up” my yoga practice and body awareness in both organized conscious and organically subconscious ways. I always leave at the end of the week feeling more balanced in mind and body than when I started, and ready to meet the world from my best vantage point.”
“Lara has an unparalleled gift to see individual bodies and work with/meet people where they are at. I have attended every level class with her at the Iyengar Institute in New York and seen her help, challenge, and inspire all levels of students from beginners to advanced practitioners/teachers.”
“Lara Warren is a rare and uniquely talented yoga instructor who is especially gifted at understanding and working with students who have bodies very different from her own. I recall the first time I attended one of her retreats. I had not taken a single class with her before the retreat and was amazed at the consistently insightful individual instruction I received as a new student of hers. She navigated my needs as a middle-aged male athlete better than any Iyengar yoga instructor I had ever studied with, and I left that retreat feeling a powerful change to my body and mind. There’s no one I trust more to guide me to balance and health than Lara.”
“I would like to thank you for all that I have learned from you this past year, not only in my yoga practice which I feel has evolved into a more mature and sensible practice but also in the ways you teach us to approach life, with curiosity and care, being present in the present, and that change can come with subtle adjustments.”
RETREAT TIP! Extend your time in peace and beauty while savoring Western hospitality by spending some time exploring the great West’s National Park treasures either before or after your Iyengar Yoga retreat with Lara at the Feathered Pipe Ranch. Glacier National Park is a glorious and scenic 3.5-hour drive north and west of Feathered Pipe, while Yellowstone is just a 4.5 hour drive south and east of the Ranch through some of the prettiest Western territory you’ll ever see.
ABOUT LARA WARREN:
Lara first explored B.K.S. Iyengar’s Light on Yoga when she was twelve. Enthralled with the pictures of “Guruji” performing a myriad of postures, a year later, she went to her first Iyengar Yoga class in London.
Lara received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, England, in 1992. In University, she practiced with a Shingon Buddhist group that combined Chinese Yoga with seated meditation and martial arts. Lara knew she had found her calling from the first class she had ever taught. Lara moved to New York City soon after she graduated from University.
In New York, she studied Iyengar Yoga with Robin Janis and Mary Dunn, began building the HipJoint Yoga Studio, where she was director from 1994-2014, and worked as a project manager and environmental organizer with the Council on the Environment of New York City. In 2001, she decided to go full-time into teaching yoga. Lara felt that as an environmentalist, she was running from crisis to crisis, busy trying to transform her surroundings or influence policy with much effort but without much success–while as a yoga practitioner and teacher, the effects she experiences and witnesses are much more immediate and tangible. She believes that as dedicated yoga practitioners, we are empowered on a very visceral level to make positive and lasting changes in all aspects of our lives.
In addition to daily yoga practice and raising her beautiful child, Lara is happiest when playing guitar, traveling the world, or simply staying closer to home and enjoying all NYC has to offer.
Lara looks for joy and ease; challenge and transformation; evolution and peace in her life and practice, and some of the elements with which she hopes to imbue her students.
