Yoga is defined as the settling of the mind into stillness. That is a tall order in our busy, distracting, technology-infused worlds. Even so, the practice of Yoga is vital for living a well-balanced life. Asana is one way to practice Yoga. What we learn on our mats can inform our lives off the mat. We can build awareness about how we are in the world with ourselves and with the people and the environment around us. Join us for a week of practicing asana with a greater purpose. And spend time immersed in nature to simplify, slow down and notice the patterns in your life.

We will offer two yoga classes a day (morning and afternoon), along with extra specialty classes/mini-workshops (TBD by interest & time availability). Both the morning and afternoon sessions will vary in style and format ranging from active vinyasa-style yang yoga to gentle, slow-flow classes incorporating elements of Yin and Restorative yoga, pranayama and meditation. We will incorporate philosophy discussion and mindfulness teachings into time before and/or after classes.

The Art of Living Your Yoga - Feathered Pipe RanchThe yoga classes that we offer will be appropriate for all levels of students as we will offer the chance to modify or add on when appropriate. So whether you are a beginner or advanced student, we will work with you at your level to provide a week of challenge and growth. During the day, you will have the freedom to spend your time as you choose….treating yourself to a massage, napping, reading, hiking and enjoying nature.

Here’s what a typical day will look like:

7:30 Light Breakfast
9-11 am Yoga Practice
12:00 Lunch
Afternoon Free Time to enjoy the outdoors or nap!
4:00-6:00 pm Yoga practice
7pm Dinner

*Our yoga classes will often begin or end with “Dharma Discussions”, an opportunity to dive deep into the sutras and talk about the role this ancient philosophy plays in our daily, modern lives.

~Ashley Hanrahan, Miami, FL

“I have been on 2 retreats with Shannah and Ramsay over the past few years.  Each time, my experience surpassed my hopes for the trip.  Although I have practiced yoga for 18 years and am recently a certified instructor, I felt the yoga offerings were inspirational and accessible to all levels of practitioners.  Shannah and Ramsay work beautifully together and each bring a unique perspective and knowledge to the class.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the locations, food, and community their trips consistently deliver!”

~Sara Warwick, Hingham, MA

The Art of Living Your Yoga - Ramsay Trussell

Ramsay Trussell (RYT 500) began practicing yoga in 2000, and teaching since 2008. She owns On the Mat Yoga in Concord, Massachusetts. Ramsay was drawn to the strong, physical aspects of the practice. The unexpected bonus was that this physical practice also brought about a quiet mind that other athletic endeavors had not. Ramsay enjoys the challenge of finding a balance between strength and ease, power and letting go, in each class and in each pose.

Trained by Natasha Rizopoulos, Ramsay’s classes combine the heat and flow of Ashtanga with a strong emphasis on precise alignment that comes from Iyengar. Ramsay has also spent time studying the Iyengar method in weekly classes with Patricia Walden. Ramsay believes strongly that yoga is a practice of healing the body so, in 2015, she studied with both Julie Gudmestad and Judith Lasater, both of whom are renowned physical therapists, anatomists and yoga teachers. Classes with each of them helped to deepen Ramsay’s knowledge of anatomy and yoga therapeutics.

As a former TV producer, Ramsay enjoys the challenge of planning and producing a safe but challenging sequence for her students with a deep appreciation that every student is different and that each day is different. Be Present and Be Patient. As the great Pattabhi Jois said, “Little by little, all is coming.”
