I’m thrilled to be spending my 10^th summer at the Feathered Pipe Ranch, sharing with you in a week of deep community and connection, a whole lot of fun, laughter, and creative yoga practice - both on and off the mat. We’ll open our hearts, relax into who we are, and help give each other the courage to follow our inner guidance and be ourselves fully, without limit. The result is healing, energizing, and deeply transformative.

Our sessions together will be a unique blend of Freedom Style Yoga, an intuitive, guided-from-within practice of exploring options and choices in the poses; and Bhakti Yoga, the devotional yoga of the heart, which uses our emotions and our longing for The Divine as a pathway to the connection we yearn to find.

Each session will have a slightly different flavor and will incorporate various elements to help us dive straight into the center of ourselves: meditation, chanting, creative asana and sequencing, storytelling and discussions, and Bhakti Moves - a dance-based practice that I’ve created. Bhakti Moves is a fusion of my deepest passions: Freedom Style Yoga, dance, meditation, rhythm, music, and my exuberance for the beauty and magic of life.

Carie Garrett

Carie Garrett is a senior teacher of Los Angeles-based yoga master Erich Schiffmann. Since 2001 she has worked extensively with Schiffmann as his apprentice and teaching assistant at workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings throughout the country. Carie teaches a fluid and creative practice based on inner listening, self-trust, and intuitive alignment. Her unique teaching style weaves together a love of innovative movement from a dance background and a strong knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology from 25 years as a group exercise instructor. Her classes are spontaneous, fun, outside the box, and reflect her passion and real-life experiences of living the yoga in the world on a daily basis. Registration Process: Payment of $300 deposit is required to initiate your registration.  This deposit will be NON-REFUNDABLE once registration is complete.

Upon initial registration the Feathered Pipe administrative staff will contact your to confirm receiving your registration and will assist with choosing your accommodation and transportation requirements.

Full payment is due at the time of completing your registration by reserving your accommodation.  Payment options may be arranged if necessary.  All final payments are due 8 weeks before the arrival date of your retreat.

Cancellation Policy: For cancellations before 8 weeks out, we will refund all of your payments except the $300 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT.  For cancellations from 8 to 2 weeks out THERE IS NO REFUND; however we will credit any payments over the deposit to another workshop in 2012. By practice and attuning to the heart, we realize that the only strategy for true success is one in which all people’s needs are felt, understood and given voice.

Christian’s profound knowledge of spirit and the transformational power of the breath and meditation will be employed to enable you to view and experience your life, being, and relation to other in undistorted and empowered form. New-found clarity will be revealed about your relation to self, spirit and life itself, transforming blocked and malformed energy into truly effective impetus for change.

And to deepen and further root the experience, Karen Chrappa, a modern-day medicine woman, will be present to remind us of our relationship with the Earth and our obligation to honor its gifts through various traditional rituals. Christian de la Huerta

Christian de la Huerta, writer, speaker, retreat and group facilitator for the past 20 years, is author of the award-winning and critically-acclaimed Coming out Spiritually and the forthcoming The Soul of Power. Joe Weston

Joe Weston is an international workshop facilitator, author, consultant, personal life coach, creative social activist, and advocate for peace. He is the author of the fast selling Mastering Respectful Confrontation and the founder and presenter of Respectful Confrontation workshops and lectures. Joe brings a wealth of insight to his work based on many teachings, including Tai Chi Chuan, Buddhism, Taoism, the teachings of Jesus, contemporary communication models, as well as his experience in theater and various organizational trainings. His clients and students include the Dutch Consulate, NASA, political refugees in the Balkans, inmates at a California prison, corporate and non-profit employees from every continent, social activists, artists, middle school children, teachers, and parents. He also volunteers for the Liberation Prison Project, teaching Buddhism to inmates. Karen Chrappa

Karen Chrappa is author of A Structure for Spirit and a contemporary Medicine Woman. Her life has been dedicated to mastering the art and science of healing beginning with her roots in Physical Therapy 25 years ago. Her work weaves together the intuitive dance of Thai Massage, studying both in the US and Thailand, with the Earth based medicine of Shamanism. She works in both the visible realms of form and the invisible realms of Spirit helping clients embody their Sacred essence. She has studied extensively with master shamans of the Q’ero in the sacred mountains of Peru and with Dr. Alberto Villoldo and The Four Winds Healing the Light Body School. She continues her travels to Peru to awaken the Sacred Feminine through ongoing work and study with the Q'eros with her ayllu, or tribe, the Bouquet of Light. Kira Ryder

Kira Ryder is grateful for all her teachers and the teachings that have been so generously shared with her.  Named one of Yoga Journal’s Top 21 Yoga Teachers under the age of 40 “shaping the future of yoga,” Kira is the Den Mother of Lulu Bandha’s and the International Ojai Yoga Crib. Ravi Ravindra

Ravi Ravindra was born in India and received his early education there. He went to Canada as a graduate student and later as an immigrant. Now he is a Professor Emeritus at Dalhousie University, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he served for many years as a professor in three Departments: Comparative Religion, Philosophy, and Physics. He was a Member of the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study in Shimla, and the Founding Director of the Threshold Award for Integrative Knowledge. Ravindra’s spiritual search has led him to the teachings of J. Krishnamurti, G. Gurdjieff, Yoga, Zen, and a deep immersion in the mystical teachings of the Indian and Christian classical traditions. He is a prolific author including: Krishnamurti:Two Birds on One Tree, Science and The Sacred, The Wisdom of Patañjali's Yoga Sutras and The Inner Journey-Myth, Psyche, and Spirit. Richard Miller, Ph.D

Richard Miller, PhD, author of Yoga Nidra: A Meditative Practice for Deep Relaxation and Healing, is a psychologist and contemporary teacher of nondualism whose teachings emphasize spiritual awakening and psychological integration. Richard is co-founder of the International Association of Yoga Therapy and the Institute for Spirituality and Psychology, founding president of the Integrative Restoration Institute, and senior advisor to the Baumann Institute, dedicated to understanding the impact of pure Awareness on well-being. Transform from Within

Baxter will lead the group in unique asana practices, some with live musical accompaniment by Mark, and many that will integrate yogic sound practices. Mark will offer truly special afternoon sessions that will facilitate opening and connection via sound frequency, voice, chant, mantra, and movement, working with the energy system of Chakras, as well as Sufi dance traditions. Special evening musical events will include a Chakra-focused concert and a good old campfire sing along.

Baxter Bell, MD

Baxter Bell, MD, RYT500 is a yoga practitioner, teacher, educator, musician, physician, and medical acupuncturist. He leads classes, workshops and retreats in northern CA, the US and around the world. His workshops and retreats are an opportunity to reconnect with your deeper self and find the sources of energy to evolve and transform your life. Baxter is the director of the teacher-training program at Piedmont Yoga Studio in Oakland, CA and also serves as adjunct faculty on training programs, including Yoga Therapeutic programs, around the country. A violinist since the age of 5, he loves to share improvised music with his students at the end of practices, as well as collaborating with other musicians to create unique sound-scapes for deeper transformative work in yoga. Mark Stanton Welch

Mark Stanton Welch is a musician, a singer/songwriter, a performer, an educator, a facilitator, a visionary, a sound healer and a vibrational alchemist.  For over 25 years his creations have touched and inspired the hearts, minds, and spirits of audiences worldwide.  With guitar, keyboard, drum and voice, Mark has interacted with individuals and groups from children to teens to adults.  A long-held dream to write music for authors and accompany them at workshops has been realized in a current association with intuitive, Sonia Choquette. Jennifer Cohen

Jennifer Cohen has studied the art and science of transformational coaching and facilitation since 1992 and is certified as a Master Coach by The Strozzi Institute for Leadership and Mastery. She co-founded Seven Stones Leadership Group, a company devoted to guiding individuals and organizations to face the most pressing questions of our time inside of exquisite sufficiency.

Jen has steeped herself equally in the practical as well as the esoteric. A devoted student of Vippasana meditation from the Theravada Buddhist tradition as well as a student of psychic practice, Tantric healing, and a mystery school student, Jen has cultivated her heart and spirit as the primary source of her teaching. In her passion for understanding the design of life, she has dedicated herself to understanding systems thinking and theory, has studied the neurophysiology of trauma, as well as communication theory and the architecture of masterful conversations and she has been teaching the Strozzi method of embodied leadership for well over a decade.

She is the author of the chapter “From Surviving to Thriving” in the book Being Human at Work, edited by Richard Strozzi Heckler. She has a master’s degree in Applied Psychology with an emphasis on systems theory from the Antioch New England Graduate School, and she did her undergraduate work in philosophy at Oberlin and Barnard. Marla Apt

Marla Apt is a Senior Intermediate level Iyengar Yoga teacher, based in Los Angeles. She has been involved with medical research studies at UCLA on yoga for depression, anxiety and IBS and created the first yoga therapy content to be incorporated into the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine’s curriculum. She is a writer contributor for Yoga Journal Magazine and was the 2009/2010 author of the "Basics" column of which you can find many of her articles here within our "Teachers' Cabin" blog.

Marla visited India for the first time while doing research for a degree in Buddhist Philosophy and has since returned numerous times for yoga studies including a year of study in Pune, India with B.K.S. Iyengar, his daughter, Geeta Iyengar and son, Prashant Iyengar. She continues to study annually with the Iyengars at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India.

She is on the faculty of the three-year Teacher Training Program of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California. Marla served as the President of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States and is currently a member of the national certification committee. Lissa Rankin, MD

Lissa Rankin, MD is an OB/GYN physician visionary, an author, a speaker, a consultant to visionaries, a professional artist, and founder of the women’s health and wellness community OwningPink.com.  Discouraged by the broken, patriarchal health care system, she left her medical practice in 2007 only to realize that you can quit your job, but you can’t quit your calling. This epiphany launched her on a journey of discovery that led her to become a leader in the field of mind/body medicine, which she blogs about at OwningPink.com and is writing about in her third book, Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof You Can Heal Yourself (Hay House, 2013). She teaches self-healing to both patients and visionaries who seek to live more vital, whole, balanced lives. She is leading a revolution to feminize how health care is received and delivered by encouraging collaboration, fostering self-healing, reconnecting health care and spirituality, empowering patients to tap into the mind’s power to heal the body, and encouraging women not to settle for being merely well, but to strive for living vital, joyful, authentic lives full of “mojo.”  When not spreading the word, she chills out, paints, does yoga, and hikes in Marin County, California with her husband and daughter. Join Chase Bossart and JJ Gormley for an in-depth and focused, week-long exploration of yoga’s amazing power to heal. Both, being Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation teachers and practitioners of Mr. TKV Desikachar's comprehensive system of yoga therapy, will take you on a journey through attentive movement, breath and sound toward the essence of yoga and an understanding of the components that comprise true equanimity and well-being.

The fundamental principles underlying the therapeutic application of yoga and how to incorporate these principles into your practice and teaching will be the focus of this retreat with in-depth discussion and study of the yogic text that form the foundation. The retreat offers you a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the yogic lifestyle in the open, unencumbered, vastness of the Blacktail Ranch, while immersing yourself in yoga and meditation practices which will deepen your understanding of yoga’s healing power.

In practice sessions including āsana, prāṇāyāma, meditation and sound, participants will be led in experiencing a wide array of yogic tools and techniques for developing health and wellness in oneself and others, empowering you with hands-on clinical application of yoga therapy. Chase Bossart

Chase Bossart, E-RYT500 has been studying yoga as a personal student of Mr. TKV Desikachar for the past 18 years. During that time he has made numerous trips to Chennai to study at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) with Mr. Desikachar and his son Kausthub. Altogether he’s spent almost four years in Chennai studying Yoga.

Chase is Senior Teacher & the Director of Therapy & Education at the Healing Yoga Foundation, a non-profit healing center in San Francisco specializing in the therapeutic application of Yoga in the tradition of Śrī T. Krishnamacharya, Mr. TKV Desikachar & Kausthub Desikachar. He also teaches regular āsana, prāṇāyāma, meditation and vedic chanting classes. Proficient in many of the more advanced aspects of yoga, Chase travels frequently around the country giving workshops and trainings on such topics as prāṇāyāma, meditation, and yoga philosophy. He is particularly drawn to the classical teachings of Patañjali’s Yogasūtra. Chase absolutely loves to lead experiential workshops that demonstrate yoga philosophy’s practical applications in daily life.

His warm, funny and engaging teaching style appeals to every level of yoga practitioner from beginner to advanced, and his seminars in the US and Europe are enthusiastically received. He graduated from Colgate University in Philosophy and Religion, completed a Masters in Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara and lived and worked in Beijing for 8 years. JJ Gormley

JJ Gormley, E-RYT500 is a skilled yoga educator, therapist and founder of the Sun and Moon Yoga Studios in Virginia. She started practicing yoga in 1979, studying with many of the foremost teachers within the various traditions finding particular resonance with the teachings of Mr. TKV Desikachar. Drawing from the essence found within each tradition, she teaches and heals from a truly eclectic and well-rounded vantage point, attuning the balance of the entire system; body, mind, and spirit.

In 2002 she met Kausthub Desikachar and fell in love with the teachings of Mr. TKV Desikachar's The Heart of Yoga as taught by his son, Kausthub. She went to Chennai, India to study with Kausthub and learn in-depth the tradition of yoga teaching commonly called Viniyoga, and also known as KYM (Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram) teachings. In 2007 she entered into a 4-year training program for Yoga Therapists within this tradition through the Krishnamacharya Healing Yoga Foundation in the US.

JJ teaches yoga poses from the perspective of the energetic body and staying connected to the earth energetically (being well-grounded). She looks at the structure of the body and what is happening to the integrity of the body at and around each of the main energy centers, or chakras. She teach how to use yoga and yoga's many tools (poses, breath, etc.) to realign the body and release stuck energy, ultimately bringing about increased equipoise and freedom to our everyday life.
